Choosing the Right Shed Model
Most people think the style of the shed is purely an aesthetic decision, especially if you are looking for a simple storage building or garden shed. However, the shed model greatly impacts the functionality of your building.
In order to choose the best shed model, you need to consider what the shed will be used for, where it will be placed, and what size it needs to be. Then you will be ready to choose the model that suits your personal taste and does what you need it to do!
How Will Your Shed Be Used?
Portable buildings are used for many different purposes--storage, gardening, garages, studios, offices, workshops, personal retreats, and more. No matter how you plan to use your shed, there are a few things you need to consider before choosing a shed model.
4 Steps to Finding the Right Shed Model
1 -Focus on Function
It's tempting to let price drive our purchase decision. However, if you focus primarily on price, you may end up with a shed model you are not happy with because it doesn't meet your needs. We have many customers who have to buy a second shed because they didn't properly plan for all of their needs. Asking yourself how you plan to use your shed will help you narrow down shed model options as different models are best for different uses.
2 - Make a List and Check it Twice
Make a list of the ways you want to use the building and the things you want to put in the building. Will you use it for storage only? Do you need space to work on your favorite hobby or your side gig? Do you need a corner to use for your home office? How much time do you plan to spend in your shed? These are all questions that will help formulate your list.
Remember, if two people will be using the shed, both may have their own mental lists. Discussing this upfront will ensure you choose the right shed model for a smart investment.

3 - Evaluate the "List"
After you itemize your list, think about how everything will fit into your shed. Maybe you are planning to use your shed for storage and a workshop. Think about how you will allocate the space for both. Here are a few things to consider:
Items that are too large to lift
Mowers, freezers and other large items will simply take up floor space; there's no way around it.
Items that will hang from the wall
Shovels, rakes and hoses will do best with wall space to hang from.
Items you can lift over your head
Lighter storage totes and boxes may be put on high shelves or onto a loft.
Low shelving is a good option if you don't want a chiropractor visit!
4 - Consider your Home's Style
Does your home have a distinct style? Are you part of an HOA that sets specific requirements? When deciding on a shed model, you can choose a complementary style that matches your home or you may choose a building that intentionally contrasts with your home so that your new shed shines!
One distinction between shed models is the roof profile. A-frame roofs are most commonly found on houses so are an excellent choice for a shed that matches your home. A modified version of the A-frame roof is the nostalgic salt-box profile. Aside from the epic look, this style has a higher front wall giving you a higher entry point at the front, but a lower back wall perfect for accessible shelving. The gambrel roof offers a classic barn look and loft space for extra storage.
